Through a partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skill Development, the Township is hiring four (4) Temporary-Casual Peer Helpers for the Terrace Bay Action Centre to assist in supporting community members who are facing loss of employment due to the idling of the Terrace Bay Pulp Mill.

The Peer Helpers will report to the Terrace Bay Action Centre Coordinators. Their duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Providing information about local resources and organizations for displaced workers including making referrals to community agencies
  • Analyzing results from needs assessment surveys to help understand the needs of displaced workers
  • Providing support for workshops or courses such as set up/take down and providing assistance to course instructors if required
  • Supervising the use of the Action Centre guest computer such as helping with logging on/off of online course, providing job search assistance, etc.
  • Reviewing resumes and providing advice or referrals for suggested updates
  • Act as a support for displaced workers, maintaining contact with former co-workers and providing encouragement and a listening ear

Wage: $20/hr, 12hrs/week – casual with flexible schedule up to a year (Non-unionized)
