Fire Ban in Effect as of midnight tonight May 23, 2020

ATTENTION RESIDENTS
As of midnight tonight, the Ministry of Natural Resources will be implementing a restricted fire zone/fire ban for our area. All residential fire permits will be suspended at 12:00am Saturday, May 23rd, 2020 until further notice. We WILL be allowing propane fire pits within the township limits but please use them responsibly and keep away from any combustibles. Please stay tuned for updates as they become available.

Skate Park Rules & Regulations – Under COVID-19

The Skate Park is Open for public use as of May 21, 2020.

The following Skate Park Rules & Regulations are in effect under COVID-19:

  • All skatepark users will read the signs prior to entering and self-screen/answer the questions
  • Anyone not feeling well or showing symptoms shall not enter or use the park.
  • Anyone that has travelled and is subject to self-isolation regulations imposed by the Health Unit or otherwise, shall not enter the park
  • Skatepark users MUST maintain physical distancing of at least two metres (2m) at all times.
  • Skatepark observers MUST maintain physical distancing of at least two metres (2m) between individuals at all times.
  • The skatepark surfaces, railings and seating areas are currently not sanitized or cleaned regularly. All users should take proper precautions and wash hands or sanitize after any contact.

Public Notice COVID-19 Pandemic Update – Outdoor Recreation Amenities

TERRACE BAY, ON May 21, 2020 As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the Township of Terrace Bay remains active in monitoring the situation and continues to evaluate all communications from Public Health Agencies, Federal and Provincial Government related to the pandemic. We are also in contact with local businesses and neighboring communities to share and ensure best practices for the health and well-being of our residents are in place.  Community safety is of utmost importance as we consider the next steps in this situation.

The Township has reviewed the recent information as released by the Province on May 19, 2020 regarding outdoor amenities. Based on the information received, the Township has made the following decisions:

  • Picnic tables in all areas are considered open to the public as of May 21.
  • The Skate Park and Tennis courts will be open as of May 21.
  • The Aguasabon Gorge Boardwalk will be open as of May 21
  • Parks and greenspaces are open to foot traffic only (no playground equipment or team sports) as of May 21

Individuals using these amenities, except for members of the same household, are required to maintain a physical distance of at least two metres (2m) or six feet (6ft).    READ MORE

Temporary Allowance for Open Air Burning

As of 12:01 a.m. on May 16, 2020, Ontario is lifting the Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) designation that was put in place last month across Ontario's fire region. NOTICE TO RESIDENTS – Bylaw 29-2014 Spring Cleaning of Lawns

On May 4, 2020 Council passed the following resolution:

“RESOLVED THAT Council approve that enforcement of the “fouling of the highways provisions of bylaw 29-2014 be suspended with respect to spring lawn care until spring municipal sweeping operations have concluded. CARRIED”

What does this mean?

With respect to people raking and power-sweeping the winter sand and grit off their lawns and onto the road allowance, Council has directed Administration to use broad discretion when investigating any complaints and enforcement of this bylaw – as it relates to spring lawn care.  READ MORE

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS – Bylaw 16-2012 PROHIBIT THE FEEDING OF WILDLIFE

This is a reminder that in accordance with Bylaw No. 16-2012, a Bylaw to Prohibit the Feeding of Wildlife within the Corporate limits of The Township of Terrace Bay

No Owner or occupier of land within the Township of Terrace Bay shall intentionally feed, cause to be fed, or provide or make available food attractants or other similar substances for the consumption of Wildlife within the boundaries of the Township of Terrace Bay, on either private or public property.    READ MORE
