Notice to Residents – Beach Road East Closed

BEACH ROAD EAST - CLOSED - starting May 28 at 7:00am until further notice!  The Township of Terrace Bay is expanding and constructing new parking areas along the Beach Rd East. The Public are asked to respect and obey safety barriers and stay out of this area.

Recycling Update

RECYCLING UPDATE - NEW: We CAN recycle plastics labeled 1 through 7!  All recyclables MUST be cleaned. We cannot accept contaminated containers.  All plastics can be placed in the same clear plastic bag for pick up.  Examples include, but NOT limited to:
#1 Clear, Opaque, Thermoform Containers - Water bottles | Soda bottles | Peanut butter jars | plastic salad container | Clear plastic cups | Clear deli lids | Opaque ketchup bottles
#2 High Density Polythylene - Beverage containers | Laundry containers | Detergent bottles | Shampoo bottles | Bleach bottles | Vitamin containers | Plastic coffee containers
#3-7 Mixed Plastics - Salad dressing container | Honey container | Squeeze bottles | Yogurt/Sour Cream containers | Margarine container | Ice cream container | Take Out container

Re: Bylaw 29-2014 Spring Cleaning of Lawns

On May 3, 2021 Council passed the following resolution:  “RESOLVED THAT Council approve that enforcement of the “fouling of the highways provisions of bylaw 29-2014 be suspended with respect to spring lawn care until spring municipal sweeping operations have concluded.  “CARRIED”

Property Owners are responsible for clean-up of any lawn sweepings left on the road after the final spring sweeping operations have concluded.

Parks Canada’s Lake Superior NMCA opening a Visitor Centre in Terrace Bay

Exciting News! Parks Canada’s Lake Superior NMCA team will be opening a small visitor centre in the newly-constructed Terrace Bay Beach Pavilion! This new waterfront facility is located on Lake Superior at the mouth of the Aguasabon River. The pavilion will welcome visitors looking to explore the northern coast of the lake. Upon opening, the centre will offer merchandise sales, community programs, interpretive programming, and celebratory events such as Canada Day and Lake Superior Day. A 300m boardwalk extends from the pavilion along a nature trail leading to Parks Canada red chairs, located at the eastern edge of the beach. Expect to see smiling Parks Canada staff on site at the Terrace Bay beach starting in Summer 2021.  For more details check out the online article.

Spring Cleaning of Lawns

Bylaw 29-2014 Re: Spring Cleaning of Lawns - On May 3, 2021 Council passed the following resolution:

“RESOLVED THAT Council approve that enforcement of the “fouling of the highways provisions of bylaw 29-2014 be suspended with respect to spring lawn care until spring municipal sweeping operations have concluded.  “CARRIED”

What does this mean?
With respect to people raking and power-sweeping the winter sand and grit off their lawns and onto the road allowance, Council has directed Administration to use broad discretion when investigating any complaints and enforcement of this bylaw – as it relates to spring lawn care.

Residents Notice – Prohibit the Feeding of Wildlife

This is a reminder that in accordance with Bylaw No. 16-2012, a Bylaw to Prohibit the Feeding of Wildlife within the Corporate limits of The Township of Terrace Bay.

  1. No Owner or occupier of land within the Township of Terrace Bay shall intentionally feed, cause to be fed, or provide or make available food attractants or other similar substances for the consumption of Wildlife within the boundaries of the Township of Terrace Bay, on either private or public property.
  2. No Owner or Occupier of land shall place or allow any Device or other material to be placed outdoors or on any public or private property for the purpose of attracting or feeding Wildlife.
  3. Every Property Owner or Occupier shall promptly remove any attractants placed on the Owner's or Occupier's property in violation of this By-law.
  4. Every Property Owner or Occupier shall promptly remove, any Device placed on the Owner's or Occupier's property to which Wildlife are attracted or from which Wildlife actually feed. Alternatively, a Property Owner or Occupier may modify such a Device or make other changes to the property that prevents Wildlife from having access to feeding from the Device.

Reminder to empty and/or remove your bird feeders between May 1 to October 31, as the bird feed is a known attractant to the bears
