NOTICE TO RESIDENTS – Bylaw 29-2014 Spring Cleaning of Lawns

On May 4, 2020 Council passed the following resolution:

“RESOLVED THAT Council approve that enforcement of the “fouling of the highways provisions of bylaw 29-2014 be suspended with respect to spring lawn care until spring municipal sweeping operations have concluded. CARRIED”

What does this mean?

With respect to people raking and power-sweeping the winter sand and grit off their lawns and onto the road allowance, Council has directed Administration to use broad discretion when investigating any complaints and enforcement of this bylaw – as it relates to spring lawn care.  READ MORE

This is a reminder that in accordance with Bylaw No. 16-2012, a Bylaw to Prohibit the Feeding of Wildlife within the Corporate limits of The Township of Terrace Bay

No Owner or occupier of land within the Township of Terrace Bay shall intentionally feed, cause to be fed, or provide or make available food attractants or other similar substances for the consumption of Wildlife within the boundaries of the Township of Terrace Bay, on either private or public property.    READ MORE

Terrace Bay Landfill and Garbage Collection

TERRACE BAY, ON April 3, 2020 – The fees at the landfill will be waived on all residential garbage for both residents of Schreiber and Terrace Bay until further notice. While at the landfill, residents are expected to practice proper physical distancing from others and listen to any direction, as provided by the landfill attendants. We ask for the public’s cooperation in only visiting the landfill for necessary and essential reasons. Garbage will still be collected curbside In Terrace Bay on Tuesdays as per normal. Container/garbage tags will not be required for curbside collection as of April 7, 2020 and until further notice. However all other collection rules still apply (121L max size container, lid etc.) and a two (2) container limit is imposed as of Tuesday April 7, 2020. The Township reserves the right to limit or restrict the services noted above, if any abuse or misuse is observed. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and appreciate everyone’s cooperation during this difficult time. Spring clean-up week is still planned for May at this time.The Township of Terrace Bay remains diligent in monitoring the situation as it pertains to COVID-19. We continue to evaluate our operations and all communications from local and regional health agencies, as well as communications from other Federal and Provincial Government Health Authorities on a daily basis. The health and well-being of our residents and community is of great importance.

COVID-19 Pandemic Update: Declaration of Emergency

TERRACE BAY, ON March 28, 2020 The Township of Terrace Bay has issued a Declaration of Emergency for COVID-19.  This is a precaution in order to access additional resources and funding during this pandemic, when and if to protect the health and safety of our residents and businesses.  While precautionary, the Township is taking the current situation very seriously and is taking every step that we can to protect the community from the threat.

Mayor Jody Davis, on behalf of the Township of Terrace Bay, has declared an emergency to the Province of Ontario dated March 28, 2020, due to Public Health Concerns. This action is deemed necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of our residents and properties.  Our declaration is made in support of the North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) and in/with the support of our neighbouring community, the Township of Schreiber.

The Township of Terrace Bay remains diligent in monitoring the situation as it pertains to COVID-19.  We continue to evaluate all communications from local and regional health agencies, as well as communications from other Federal and Provincial Government Health Authorities. The health and well-being of our residents and community is of great importance.

COVID-19 Pandemic Update

TERRACE BAY, ON March 25, 2020 Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, the Township of Terrace Bay’s Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) has met numerous times, most recently on March 24th at 10am to discuss updates from the Federal and Provincial governments; updates from health agencies that we liaise with; the Township’s Emergency Plan and continued monitoring of the COVID-19 situation. Terrace Bay’s MECG group consists of the Mayor, Chief Administrative Officer/Clerk, Fire Chief, and Public Works Supervisor.

While we continue to monitor the situation and work with our neighbouring municipalities and partner agencies, we do not see a municipal emergency being declared as a necessary step at this time. It is important to emphasize that this situation could change very rapidly.
